I was watching Shadow of the Vampire, about how F.W. Murneu made Nosferatu and how crazy Max Shrek was and thought of this question.
I really like the Klaus Kinski/Werner Herzog version of Nosferatu, but I'd have to say my favorite vampire movie is Interview with the Vampire. Yeah Yeah I know it was the pretty boy vampire movie, but it was so damn cool though. -------------------- |

Vampire in Brooklyn
Actually, I'm partial to The Lost Boys. I also thought Fright Night was pretty damn entertaining. But as for favorite vampire flicks, I'd have to go with Near Dark and Lugosi's Dracula. -------------------- "Don't fuck up, because if you fuck up, you're fucking yourself." - Drunken words of wisdom from 10k

Interview with a Vampire....that part where Brad goes crazy with that scythe and the fire is great!

QUOTE (KahlanAmnell @ Apr 16 2003, 07:34 AM) Interview with a Vampire....that part where Brad goes crazy with that scythe and the fire is great! Don't forget the music in that scene! Interview with the Vampire is the best vampire movie. Kirsten Dunst has yet to top her performance in this movie. -------------------- Would I rather be feared or loved?
Um, easy, both. I want people to be afraid of how much they love me. |

Murnau's Nosferatu still rocks after 81 years and remains my favorite. I found the Klaus Kinski version to be unwatchable. At least the english language version. Maybe the subtitled one is better.
Christopher's portrayal of the Count in Horror of Dracula is on a par with Lugosi's. Gary Oldman did pretty good in Coppola's version as the rest of the movie crumbled in suckiness. Near Dark is probably one of the most underrated vampire movies. Lance Henriksen is almost always impressive. One of these days I have to find the time to watch the special edition DVD. Interview with the Vampire was garbage as Tom Cruise can't seem to escape playing Joel Goodson. Even Innocent Blood was better. The Lost Boys was an enjoyable romp, but not great by any standard. The Subspecies movies were fun to watch also. Razor Blade Smile was a unique concept with poor execution, but will garner a smile. For animae fans, there's Vampire Hunter D, probably one of the best animae productions ever. And for one of the most unusual vampire movies, there's The Hunger with opening shots of Bahuas performing Bela Lugosi's Dead. -------------------- i've torn james joyce to pieces to make the puzzle fit

Loved the hunger too.
I especially loved what happened to the one who were bitten afterwards. |

Viddy,
I've only seen the English version, rather than the subtitled or dubbed version one. I have a feeling that Herzog wasn't used to directing in English, because the dialog and acting were incredibly bad. I wasn't even able to watch it to the end. My opinion might change if I were to see it in its native tongue, as I found it visually interesting. -------------------- i've torn james joyce to pieces to make the puzzle fit

1. Nosferatu (1922 - F. W. Mernau)
2. Near Dark (1987 - Kathryn Bigelow) 3. Fright Night (1985 - Tom Holland) 4. Shadow of the Vampire (2000 - E. Elias Merhige) 5. Vampire's Kiss (1989 - Robert Bierman) 6. Dracula (1931 - Tod Browning) 7. Dracula (1958 - Terence Fisher) 8. Nosferatu (1979 - Werner Herzog) 9. Love at First Bite (1979 - Stan Dragoti) 10. Lair of the White Worm (1988 - Ken Russell) Mernau's is still the definitive Vampire flick. Herzog's remake is good, but the original surpasses them all. I love Near Dark, lots of fun, Fright Night too. And Shadow of the Vampire is a true treat. -------------------- "The light that burns twice as bright burns half as long, and you have burned so very, very brightly...Revel in your time."

Good list, but I'd probably put Fright Night below the Draculas.
